Overcoming Fear, Worry, and Anxiety: Becoming a Woman of Faith and Confidence By Elyse M. Fitzpatrick
This author defines fear as a physical reaction to a perceived danger. As we move through life, we create habits of behavior and reactions toward fear. Many of our fears are imagined, but that does not lessen their terror. Our unchecked thoughts run wild if we do not examine them. Fitzpatrick takes a thorough Biblical look at this problem. She lays out a concrete plan of overcoming this malady with the help of God. Very informative. Easy to read and understand. Lots of simple application to put into practice.. Freedom is available, no drugs needed!! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I endorse this book. English I am using this book as a group study What a helpful read. The girls are wishing we had access to these insights earlier. VERY helpful for those struggling with anxiety. I highly recommend this book. This is the second copy I have purchased & will give it to a friend who has cancer. Kindle This is the most helpful Christian book I've ever read. Not only does it deal with worries and how to really deal with them, it also addresses fear of God's punishment, doubt about salvation and knowing what God is really like, enabling us to truly trust Him. I highly recommend it :) English good book dip into it being a Christian helps to understand it
Elyse Fitzpatrick's book Overcoming Fear, Worry, and Anxiety is a simple and inspiring read. The author's understanding of the physiology of anxiety is a little dated but that's understandable. I did find some good insights, but I prefer Dr. Tim Clinton's books. Clinton's books are far nuanced; and he helps the reader make peace in their relationships, not only with God but with others too. He does a far better job of helping the reader understand why they are fearful. I did love the way this book by Fitzpatrick drew on biblical examples and applied them very concretely to modern day fears. Glad I read this book, but I wish I had checked it out of the library rather than purchasing. English After enjoying other books by this author in the past, I found this title on the nose for the current situation and my own response to it. Careful with the topic and helpful with her discussion, Elyse Fitzpatrick guides her readers from understanding what fear looks like, understanding where it comes from, and what God has to say about it through His word.
Easy to read and understand, the book is divided into three sections with a handful of chapters under each section and then each chapter ending with follow up questions and verses for further study and contemplation. I find her writing style engaging though I did occasionally gloss over the illustrations because I find them sometimes distracting. I didn't always agree with her assessment or conclusion though it was in smaller things rather than her main points. I felt she showed what the Bible said about fear rather than what verses could match her own ideas about the topic. She challenges the reader without getting abrasive. I will caution that anyone looking for a book that deals with clinical and severe cases of this topic that this is not going to do a deep dive.
Overall, it was insightful and gave me much to ponder and seek to change as I deal with occasions of fear and worry. Definitely recommend. Elyse M. Fitzpatrick This book pointed me straight to God's word and the author made sure to explain everything in a clear and practical way.
She nails it when identifying the 3 major sources of fear as loss of control, needing approval from people and desire for perfectionism. It would be great if there was a book like this geared for men. It seems that most of us, at least from time to time anyway, go through periods that we might worry or stress over things. This is a very well written, biblically based book & gives examples & plenty of things to reflect on. I am thankful that someone recommended itnow I recommend it to you. Elyse M. Fitzpatrick I have given this book to a number of people and have gone through it with people I counsel. It is an EXCELLENT resource for anyone (men included even though it is geared toward women the principles apply regardless of gender) who struggles with fear, worry and/or anxiety. There are exercises at the end of each chapter to deepen understanding of the concepts for that chapter and to help make it practical to your life in applying the truths and concepts. Elyse M.
